Easy Installation

Which VIOFO dash cams is the RTC420 compatible with?
The RTC420 is compatible with the A329T and A329TW series front units. It connects to the dedicated telephoto port. It is not compatible with A329S or A329SW models, which do not have a telephoto port.
What is the difference between the RTC420 and the RTC300?
The RTC420 is the A329-platform version of VIOFO's telephoto camera, while the RTC300 is for the A229 platform. Both feature 2K resolution with 4x optical zoom and Sony STARVIS 2 sensors. The RTC420 uses the A329's coaxial connection system, and the RTC300 uses Type-C. They are not cross-compatible between platforms.
How far can the RTC420 capture license plates?
With 4x optical zoom and the Sony STARVIS 2 sensor, the RTC420 captures license plates at approximately 3 to 5 car lengths ahead under normal driving conditions. At night, STARVIS 2 low-light performance maintains readability under streetlights and headlight illumination — far beyond what any wide-angle dash cam can resolve.
Is the RTC420 optical zoom or digital zoom?
The RTC420 uses true optical zoom with a physical zoom lens. Unlike digital zoom, which crops and degrades image quality, optical zoom captures distant subjects at full 2K sensor resolution. This is critical for capturing readable license plate footage at a distance.
Where should I mount the RTC420?
Mount the RTC420 on the front windshield near the main A329T front unit, pointing forward through the windshield. Its narrow field of view is designed to capture the road directly ahead at magnified perspective. Position it centrally for the best license plate capture angle.
Can I use the RTC420 with an A329S?
No. The A329S series does not have a telephoto port. The RTC420 is designed specifically for the A329T and A329TW series. If you want telephoto capability, consider upgrading to an A329T 2CH or A329T 3CH system.
