A CPL (Circular Polarizing Lens) filter is one of the simplest and most effective upgrades for any dash cam. It attaches to the front of the camera lens and eliminates reflections from your windshield and dashboard — the washed-out haze that obscures footage on sunny days, especially if your dashboard is light-colored or reflective. How a CPL Filter Works

Polarized light bouncing off flat surfaces (glass, dashboards, wet roads) creates glare that reduces contrast and washes out detail in your footage. A CPL filter selectively blocks this polarized light while passing the useful, non-polarized light from the scene. VIOFO CPL filters are pre-calibrated at the factory — simply clip the filter onto your camera lens and it works immediately. No manual rotation or adjustment is required. Daytime tip: The CPL filter's primary benefit is during daylight hours. Because it works by blocking a portion of incoming light, it may slightly reduce brightness in night-time footage. Which CPL Filter Fits My Camera?

CPL-200 — For A329S, A329T, A329SW, A329WW, A229 Ultra, A229 Pro, A229 Plus front cameras. The most widely compatible current-generation filter.
CPL-100 — For A119 V3, A119 MINI 2, A119M Pro front cameras and other compact single-channel models.
CPL-400 — For VS1 Mini front camera.
CPL-300 — For A229 series rear cameras (RE200, standard rear).
CPL-500 — For A329S series rear cameras (RC420).
CPL-600 — For A329S/A329T/A229 Ultra series rear cameras (RTC320, RTC420 telephoto and newer rear models).

Note: Some VIOFO dash cams include a front CPL filter in the box (A229 Pro, A119M Pro, A329S). Check your dash cam's included accessories before purchasing a duplicate. Rear CPL filters are always sold separately.

Do I really need a CPL filter for my dash cam?

If your dashboard is light-colored, reflective, or if you frequently drive in sunny conditions, a CPL filter makes a significant difference. Without one, your windshield reflects the dashboard surface back into the camera lens, creating a washed-out overlay on your footage. The CPL filter removes this reflection entirely. Even with dark dashboards, a CPL filter improves overall contrast and color saturation. It is one of the highest-impact, lowest-cost dash cam accessories.

Does a CPL filter affect night-time recording?

Yes, slightly. A CPL filter works by blocking polarized light, which inherently reduces the total amount of light reaching the sensor. During the day this is not noticeable — the glare reduction benefit far outweighs the light loss. At night, however, the reduced light intake can result in slightly darker or noisier footage, especially in poorly-lit areas. If you frequently drive at night in dark conditions, consider removing the CPL filter after sunset for optimal low-light performance. Many users keep it on year-round with acceptable results thanks to the strong low-light capability of Sony STARVIS 2 sensors, but removing it at night will produce the best possible nighttime image quality.

How do I install a CPL filter?

Simply clip or attach the CPL filter onto the front of your dash cam lens — no tools needed. Which CPL filter fits my dash cam model?

For rear cameras: CPL-300 fits A229 series rear, CPL-500 fits A329S rear, and CPL-600 fits A329S/A329T/A229 Ultra rear and telephoto cameras. CPL filters are not interchangeable between models — always match the filter to your specific camera.

Does my dash cam already come with a CPL filter?

Some VIOFO models include a front CPL filter in the box: A229 Pro, A119M Pro, and A329S all include one. A229 Plus and A119 MINI 2 do not include a CPL filter. Can I use a third-party CPL filter on my VIOFO dash cam?

VIOFO CPL filters are designed with the exact lens diameter and mounting mechanism for each camera model.
