My experience with the A329

I chose the Viofo A329 over Thinkware's offering for a couple of reasons:

1. The A329 has better image quality than the U3000. It sees better at night, supports HDR, and the image stabilization is better on rough roads. It can actually read plates even at night. It also improves in image quality over its previous model, the A229, in spite of using the same sensor, impressive.

2. I bought the A329 during a Black Friday sale, and because of this, it was valued better than the U3000. Even at standard pricing, the U3000 is more expensive than the A329 while offering a lesser image quality.

3. A Q850/F790 multiplexer setup was also something I was considering. I was thinking of running a 4ch, 1 front, 2 sides, rear camera, and battery setup. But that type of setup is currently out of my budget. Mind you, this setup trades image quality for coverage. 2K with the Q850 and 1080p all around otherwise. So I settled for a single high-quality camera.

4. Up to 4TB SSD support is quite impressive. A currently class exclusive feature. Which makes the A329 ideal for long-term parking surveillance. I was also able to pick up the recommended SSD on sale, so that helped guide my decision.

The only issue I had with the camera was after having it installed, the camera would not write to the SSD. It was 4TB T7 Shield. After a bit of troubleshooting, I found that using my android phone to format the drive, allowing the camera to write to it. Windows format did not work. Other than that installation of the SSD in the glove box is quite clean when combined with an SSD pocket.

Connecting via Wi-Fi to the camera was a little annoying. But it's not Viofo's fault. My truck has a modern infotainment and would fight with the camera to connect with my phone. So, I often have to disconnect first to review footage. Perhaps there is a more convenient solution but I haven't found it yet.

Other than that, my experience so far has been positive. Though I found that my truck could only record for 1.5 days before the battery protection turned the camera off. This was done in the 1fps time-lapse mode.

As a final word, I hope to acquire a rear external camera for the A329 when that becomes available and an external battery. Both of which I've heard that Viofo is working on. Though any battery could work, I like to keep the equipment in the same family. My hope is for Viofo to continue its quality and innovation for those new products.

The best gets even better!

Upgrading from an A129 Pro...Wow!!! The quality of the video is off the charts. I had my new A329 professionally installed and hardwired in with the HK4 kit. The quality of the front camera is seriously impressive along with the rear camera. You are able to read license plates and small details even at night. The extra features of being able to add an SSD and Wifi 6 are nice touches. This is a huge upgrade from someone coming from A129 Pro. The 4k 60fps works only with HDR off....which is fine because you can schedule it to come back on and even still at 4k 30fps HDR the footage is still incredibly good. Buy the A329 if you want the best of the best. I highly recommend this or the A229 Pro. Viofo makes the best dash cameras in the game and have great customer support to stand by it. I also highly recommend using Viofo's static stickers before installing both cameras on the front and back glass.
