Parking mode is one of the most valuable features of a modern dash cam, but it also raises two practical questions: will long-term recording drain the vehicle’s battery, and how much charge remains in the battery pack?

With the latest VIOFO firmware and app, both questions can be answered from a single screen. This guide walks through the complete setup using the A329S dash cam, the BP100 battery pack, and the HK6 hardwire kit. The same steps apply to the BP60 and other supported VIOFO models. Note that the BP100 and the HK6 are two alternative ways to power parking mode — you install one or the other, as explained below.

Before you start: update the firmware

The features described below were introduced in recent firmware versions, so begin by updating all three components. Every update is delivered over the air; no computer is required.

  • Dash cam — connect it in the VIOFO App and check for a firmware update in the camera settings. A329 series cameras require version V2.2 or later.
  • Battery pack — once the battery pack is connected in the app (Step 1 below), the app will notify you if a newer firmware version is available.
  • App — download the latest version of the VIOFO App from the App Store or Google Play.

Step 1 — Add the battery pack to the app

Open the VIOFO App, switch to the Devices tab, and tap + Battery Pack. The battery pack appears under its device name; tap Connect. No password is required.

After connecting, the app opens the battery pack dashboard, which shows the current charge level, the charging or discharging status, the temperature, input and output readings, and the estimated remaining runtime. While driving, the same page shows the charging progress and the estimated time to full.

One battery pack, one owner. The first phone to connect is registered as the battery pack’s owner. Connection attempts from any other phone are rejected, which prevents unauthorized access.

Was the battery pack previously paired to another phone?

If the battery pack is still bound to a previous phone — for example after replacing your phone, purchasing the unit second-hand, or migrating from the older VIOFO Battery app — either of the following will release it:

  • With the previous phone: open the battery pack’s Settings → Unbind Device, then connect from the new phone.
  • Without the previous phone: press the battery pack’s power button five times in quick succession. This resets the pairing, after which any phone can connect.

Step 2 — Link the battery pack to the dash cam

This step is easy to overlook, yet it enables the most useful features. In the battery pack’s Settings, locate Bound Dashcam:

  • If you use a single VIOFO dash cam, the app links the two automatically — its name will already be shown.
  • If you use more than one, tap the entry and select the dash cam you want to link.

Once linked, the dash cam reads the battery pack’s charge level wirelessly and displays a confirmation message on its own screen.

BP100 or HK6: choose one, not both

The BP100 battery pack and the HK6 hardwire kit serve the same purpose — powering parking mode — through two different approaches, and they are designed to be used independently:

  • BP100 battery pack — charges quickly from the vehicle while driving, then powers the dash cam from its own capacity while parked, so the vehicle battery is never drained. It includes its own parking-mode output cable; no hardwire kit is required.
  • HK6 hardwire kit — powers the dash cam directly from the vehicle battery through the fuse box, with low-voltage protection (Cut-off Voltage) that stops recording before the battery becomes too low to start the engine.

Do not connect the HK6 to the BP100’s output. Some users chain the two in the hope of monitoring the vehicle battery voltage and the battery pack level at the same time. This is not a correct configuration: connected that way, the HK6 only measures the BP100’s regulated output — a value unrelated to the vehicle battery — and the additional cable adds no protection. If you own a BP100, there is no need to purchase an HK6.

The app reflects whichever option you installed: the battery pack level with the BP100, or the vehicle voltage with the HK6. If you use the BP100, Steps 1–2 above complete your setup; if you use the HK6, continue to Step 3.

Step 3 — If you use the HK6 hardwire kit (no pairing required)

If you chose the HK6 hardwire kit as your parking-mode power source, no manual pairing is required. As soon as it is installed and supplies power to the dash cam, the camera detects it automatically and shows “Discovered the Hardwire Cable” together with the cable’s identifier.

The HK6 is detected automatically the first time it powers the dash cam.

To display the vehicle battery voltage on the app home screen, enable one option: open the Help tab in the app and switch on Show Voltage Value.

What the setup provides

With everything connected, the VIOFO App home screen shows the relevant reading in real time — the battery pack level with the BP100, or the vehicle voltage with the HK6 — whenever your phone is within Bluetooth range of the vehicle. The dash cam does not need to be powered on, and no Wi-Fi connection is required.

The battery level stamp on recordings

After the battery pack is linked to the dash cam, the Battery Pack Capacity stamp can be enabled in the camera’s recording settings. Each video clip will then include the battery pack level at the time of recording — useful reference information when reviewing a parking incident later.

Vehicle Battery Protection: three cut-off options

The camera menu now offers three options under Vehicle Battery Protection, each protecting a different resource:

  • Cut-off Time — ends parking recording after a set duration.
  • Cut-off Voltage — for hardwire installations: stops recording before the vehicle battery falls below a safe starting level.
  • Cut-off Battery Pack Capacity — newly added: select a reserve level (5% to 15%), and the dash cam switches to low-power mode once the battery pack reaches it, rather than draining it completely. The reserve continues to power impact detection, so a collision can still wake the camera and trigger a recording.

In short: Cut-off Voltage protects the vehicle battery; Cut-off Battery Pack Capacity protects the battery pack.

Frequently asked questions

Does the dash cam need to be powered on for the app to display the battery level and voltage?
No. The values are transmitted over Bluetooth broadcasts and remain visible while the dash cam is off.

I already use the BP100 — do I also need the HK6?
No. The BP100 includes its own parking-mode output cable and fully replaces the hardwire kit. The two products are alternative solutions, and connecting the HK6 to the BP100’s output is not a supported configuration.

A new phone cannot connect to the battery pack.
The battery pack is still bound to the previous phone. Unbind it from that phone, or press the battery pack’s power button five times to reset the pairing.

The “Cut-off Battery Pack Capacity” option does not appear in the menu.
Update the dash cam firmware (A329 series: V2.2 or later) and the battery pack firmware, then link the battery pack to the dash cam as described in Step 2.

I use two vehicles, each with its own dash cam and battery pack. Will the readings be mixed up?
No. Each battery pack is linked to its own dash cam, and every card in the app is labeled with its device name.

What is the effective range?
Standard Bluetooth range — around the vehicle, and typically within a garage. Outside that range, the home-screen cards pause until the phone is nearby again.
