I have mine set to 12.4V and my car can sit for 9 hours without triggering the voltage cutoff. That's on a 2-3 year old battery in a car that gets driven 1-2 hours daily. I wouldn't want to overwrite that much footage while it's sitting in my garage. Plug I wouldn't want to put undue strain on my battery and memory card for no reason. It's easy enough for me to just manually turn off the camera when I park in my garage (haven't forgot yet, but the wife has).

In parking mode, it only writes a fraction of the card space, compared to driving mode.

For example, I noticed 3 min. clips in the parking mode “Low Bitrate” were about 90 MB, but 3 min. clips in driving mode are about 360 MB. This means 9 hours of parking only takes the space of about 2.25 hours of driving.

If you are the type of person who remembers to turn it back on, then it’s probably better to just turn it off when you park. However, for other drivers who would rarely remember to turn it on, letting parking mode do it’s thing will ensure the camera springs to life each time they drive.

I do not have any switches in my setup. I manually turn off the camera via the power button and the camera turns on automatically every time I start the car. No need to remember.

Very good point. I’m a new user, and didn’t realize it powered up automatically, after being manually powered down. That’s a great feature that definitely eliminates the need for a switch.

To each his own, I guess. My up-fitter switches are beautifully integrated into the truck and flicking one to the off position is easier for me. Thanks again for all the great replies helping me understand how the three wire kit works!

Has turning on the switch before starting the engine helped?

I'll test this today, as this weekend I was in Orlando with it and parking in less secure places so left parking mode always engaged.

Yes, definitely to each his own. It has to work for each person, and I’ll bet no two set ups are the same. Yours does sound nice.
